Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

1. Who is responsible

This Privacy Policy explains what data Would You Rather ("the App", "we") collects, why, and what choices you have. The App is operated by the person or entity named in our Imprint.

Action needed: Fill in your real name/company and postal address on the Imprint page - this Privacy Policy links to it instead of repeating it.

2. What data we collect

When you sign in with Google, we receive and store:

  • Your name and profile picture, as provided by Google
  • Your email address

As you use the App, we additionally store:

  • Topics and questions you create
  • Likes you give to topics
  • Groups you create or join, and your votes during a game
  • Basic usage counters (e.g. how many topics you created, how many games you played)

We do not ask for or store passwords - authentication is handled entirely by Google via Firebase Authentication.

3. Cookies and local storage

We use:

  • Essential storage to keep you signed in and to remember your cookie choice. The App cannot function without this.
  • Advertising cookies (Google AdSense), but only once this feature is enabled on the site and only if you click "Accept" in the cookie banner. If you click "Decline", these are not set.

Google uses cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, and learn more about how Google uses data at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

4. Where your data is stored

All data is stored using Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Hosting), a set of cloud services provided by Google. Google acts as our data processor. Data may be processed on servers located outside your country of residence.

5. Why we process your data

We process your data to operate the App's core features: letting you sign in, create and browse topics, and play games with others. Your name and profile picture are shown to other players so they know who they're playing with. Once advertising is enabled, ad-related data is processed based on your consent (see section 3).

6. Sharing with third parties

We do not sell your data. Data is shared only with the service providers needed to run the App (Google Firebase for hosting/database/authentication, and - once enabled - Google AdSense for advertising).

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live (e.g. under the GDPR in the EU/EEA), you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details on our Imprint page. We will respond and, where applicable, delete your account data.

8. Children

The App is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can remove it.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
